Tech Notes: This 1960 Fender 5E3 Deluxe was restored and made safer by first replacing the two wire power cord with a 3 pin type and the ground pin permanently soldered to the chassis. The neutral to chassis capacitor was replaced with with a more reliable mylar type. The two badly worn volume pots were replaced with audio taper type for smooth control. The black anodized star washers were changed to chrome/nichol for improved contact and ground wires were run to the chassis for low noise assurance. The original red .05 microfarad molded signal capacitors proved to be electrically leaking causing noise and distortion (the ugly kind) so all four were were replaced with the most period correct caps on hand, Fender molded and Vitamin Q types. Next, six of the carbon resistors had drifted from their original values and were replaced with selected resistors of the same vintage. Additionally, the transformers appear to be changed. Lastly the "Mic" input jack had a series resistor installed to prevent radio pickup and interferences. The result is a superb piece of history restored.
Transformer Markings in Photos. Original 125A1A 606943 and a replaced ToneClone FTDP
Cosmetic Condition: Amp is in very good condition for it's age with plenty of wear and rips through the tolex. There is a also a good amount of wear on the control panel. This amp was missing it's back cover - Mojotone made us a new one which we aged appropriately to match the rest of the amp. See our listing photos for a detailed look at this piece.
