1997 USA Guild Starfire II Bass Guitar 4 String Semi Hollow Bass PROJECT
PROJECT BASS SOLD WITH BROKEN TRUSS ROD. BASS IS UNPLAYABLE IN CURRENT CONDITION. This instrument is not covered under our return policy and is sold AS-IS with no returns accepted for any reason (unless the unlikely case its destroyed in shipping, obviously).
The most annoying part is that other than the broken truss rod, this Guild Starfire II Bass guitar is in EXCELLENT condition. We purchased it in a 100 instrument collection from a gentleman who owned a music store since 1976 local to us in NY state who had passed away. He kept the best-of-the-best that came through his store as his personal collection and barely played them, so he likely had no idea the truss rod was broken.
We purchased this Guild not knowing it had a broken truss rod at the time. We believe the truss rod anchor is broken, therefore we will store and sell the bass with no string tension. When we briefly tensioned the strings, the action measures 12/64" measured from the bottom of each string to the top of the 12th fret, the relief spec is .063" measured at the 9th fret. Before we realized it was broken we did a full cleaning, filed the fret ends so they were nice and smooth and put on brand new strings, so it already has $100+ worth of work into it. The fretboard will need to be removed and the truss rod replaced and the fretboard reglued. Your local experienced luthier should be able to perform this job for around $600-$1000, feel free to have your luthier quote the repair before purchasing. When these basses rarely hit the market, they are usually listed around $2500, so we have priced this bass to account for the repairs plus some extra for your hassle.
Or, if you are a luthier yourself, buy this and repair it yourself to have an incredible rare bass for a great deal!
Guild only made 1083 Starfire models between 1997 and 1999 (1999 was when they stopped operations at their Westerly, RI facility forever). This included guitars and basses, and also included Starfire II, Starfire III, and Starfire IV models. That means there may have only been a handful of Starfire II basses like this one produced making it EXTREMELY rare, since the rest of the models were mostly electrics guitars. On top of that, this bass is #24 produced, making it a very early example of this legendary final generation of USA made Guild instruments.
We want to be fully transparent about the instrument we are selling so please reach out with any questions and check out our detailed photo's on the listing.
